The Montessori Board of Trustees is very excited to announce the selection of Diane Dodds as our new Head of School.

amelia-island-montessori-school The Montessori Board of Trustees is very excited to announce the selection of Diane Dodds as our new Head of School.

A graduate of Brown University with a Masters from Saint Catherine University, Dodds comes to us following a decade as the Director of Raritan Valley Montessori Academy, a private Montessori school in Bridgewater, New Jersey. There she leads and mentors twenty faculty members across a multi-site campus with 250 total students ranging from twelve months to twelve years of age.

Prior to her current role, Dodds taught Montessori for seven years and held progressive leadership positions in school admissions and marketing. Dodds began her career in corporate marketing on Wall Street. During this time, her two sons attended a Montessori school. Through her experience as a parent, she developed a deep appreciation for the Montessori educational philosophy which led her to step away from a successful career as the marketing director of a prominent investment firm to pursue a career in education. Dodds holds the American Montessori Society Early Childhood Credential, Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Organizational Behavior from Brown University, and a Master of Arts in Education from Saint Catherine University. She also consults with other Montessori schools for both the Princeton Center for Teacher Education and for the American Montessori Society. On a personal note, Dodds was a nationally ranked All American Swimmer in both high school and in college and looks forward to enjoying the outdoor activities, rich history, and eclectic community that Amelia Island has to offer. She and her husband Terry are the parents of two grown sons. They will be relocating to Amelia Island in July, and her start date will be July 5, 2017. Congratulations to our entire school community on attracting such a talented leader.

Our selection process, led by Search Committee Chair Kevin Lin, included over a dozen interviews and meetings with Dodds where a group of over 50 people comprised of school employees, parents, and Trustees all came to a unanimous decision on her selection.  I would like to personally thank our faculty and staff, especially Dee Dee Neal and Debbie Hodsdon, for their leadership and professionalism during this period of transition. We are working with Diane on a date this spring when she and her husband can come and meet our community. Once schedules are finalized, we will announce the specific dates. I am confident our parents and staff will do all they can to welcome Diane and make her move and transition as easy and comfortable as possible.
